x-men 3
when x-men came out, i was mildly excited to go see it. enjoyed the eye-candy.
then, x-men 2 came out, bearing the strongest plot line–i thought that was actually rather elegantly handled…
and when x-men 3 came out, i was trying to temper my excitment over the probability that it would fall into the dreaded nether regions of sequel conquest.
the verdict? it is fantastic eye-candy–but any human part of the story line falls a little on the thin side. apocalyptic powers, physical fazing abilities, losing powers, and a heavily mismatched combat scene that proves brains over brawn…no social commentary there.
Overall, it is yet another great story arc that has been manhandled by a bunch of suits (in the napkin idea-lunches, the writes and re-writes) and the fact that anything even remotely enjoyable emerges is just short of a miracle.
ok–so will i buy it? probably…if only to fill my set of x-men in…will i watch it again? for sure. i just won’t go to the theaters again for it.
